There are 14 locations of geothermal souces in the Kenyan Rift Valley. The experts of the Geothermal Development Company (GDC) estimate that these hot steam locations together with locations at the Victoria lake will have the total potential to generate up to 10,000 MWs. A few days after GDC started drilling in the volcanic crater Menengai, they spoke to us about first results and future plans. In addition, the operation of the Olkaria power stations at Naivsha lake, indicates that they are focussed on developing this source of energy.

Kenya: Solar Panel factory in Naivasha
The equatorial sun in Kenya has enormous potential to generate solar power. For this reason, last year, Ubbink started the production of solar panels in Naivasha at the Naivasha lake. However, the lake is hot spot for tourism and flower farms which account for 70 percent of Kenya‘s flower export. Therefore, Kenyan customers have their own view on how to use their solar energy.
Eddy Njoroge explains on the eigth floor in his office what his company contributes to take the steps on Kenya‘s way to become a middle income country up to 2030. All renewable energy resources including especially the geothermal deposits in the Rift Valley are required to meet the enormous demand of electricity.
